Courage was founded by the intrepid John Courage in 1787 rapidly gaining a reputation for quality. To this day the Courage cockerel remain the mark of a good beer, every time.
The aptly named Courage Best Bitter mixes balanced malt character with a hoppy, fruity palate, rounded off with superb mouthfeel and a crisp finish.
Over the course of more than 2 centuries, Courage was among the best-known names in British brewing. In 1787 John Courage bought a small brewery at Horselydown on the foreshore of the south bank of the Thames, a site now adjacent to Tower Bridge, London (completed in 1892). Brewing may have been carried out at this site as far back as the 16th century.
